"WarGames: Defcon 1" is a 3D combat action game inspired by the classic MGM film "WarGames". The game is set 20 years after the movie, when the military's secret super computer, the WOPR, has found a way to end all war: by exterminating humanity. Players can command either NORAD's (the North American Aerospace Defense center) conventional forces or the WOPR's futuristic forces through challenging missions created with the help of the feature film's original director, John Badham.

Battles take place in alpine, countryside, desert, lowland, Pacific and urban environments, where players command a force of 32 different air, sea and land units. Players can control up to eight units at one time to ambush the enemy utilizing an arsenal of weapons from conventional tanks and helicopters to a futuristic weapon known as the "MK4 walker," a two-legged armored attack vehicle.

As mentioned above, the game is set 20 years after the main character from the film, David Lightman, accidentally hacked his way into the WOPR, a military computer that controlled America's nuclear weapons arsenal and almost triggered a nuclear war. Now working for NORAD, David creates war simulations for the WOPR computer. To test his simulations, David posts them on Protovision's web site - a game company that fronts top secret NORAD operations. The player assumes the role of a gamer who is web surfing and decides to check out the latest game from Protovision: a war simulation that draws the player into a challenging competition of brain-power and warfare. After progressing through several missions, the line between fantasy, and reality blurs and it is only a matter of time before the player is engaged in a global war simulation where the safety of the world is truly at stake.
